Schoolin’:
Sophomore at Middlebury College, four years at Phillips Academy, Andover
At USM:
I run the middkid.com, Union Street Media’s original web site. During the summer, I meet with to Middlebury businesses in hopes of signing them for another year with us. Through out the school year, I update Middkid.com on a regular basis and raise awareness of Middkid.com to other students on campus.
Favorite part of your job:
Have you ever driven from Burlington to Middlebury? Route 7 is breathtaking, especially when you get to Shelburne and Charlotte and get your first views of Lake Champlain. The fifty minutes or so of time is usually spent daydreaming, preparing for my meetings and listening to awesomely bad pop music.
Back in the day…
I used to watch a lot of Sesame Street. Starting at the age of four or five, every morning for a few years, at least, my dad would wake me up early and plop me down in front of the tube and put on Sesame Street. It was here where I learned a lot of things such as counting, the alphabet, sharing etc. However, when I think about it, I took away a lot more than just the numbers 1-20 or mornings brought to you by the letter “Q.” I think my appreciation for music such as classical and jazz, as well as athletes like Michael Jordan, Michael Chang, and Andre Agassi was bred by watching Sesame Street. Nothing was more fun than watching Elmo count how many times Michael Chang could bounce a tennis ball on his racket or counting to 20 to the tune of “Watermelon Man pt. 2” by Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters.
When I grow up, I want to be…
Peter Gammons, baseball analyst and writer for ESPN. Quite frankly, he has one of my dream jobs. Not only is he a widely respected journalist, but he is also the most trusted journalist in all of baseball. The thought of receiving inside information from General Managers on all baseball transactions before the public does makes me giddy. As a baseball enthusiast, nothing would be better than spending a lifetime going to baseball games in the Majors to the Cape Cod League, spending some time on TV, and writing in a blog whenever I wanted.
Favorite Hobbies / Places:
Golfing, playing squash (squashing?), tennis, barbequing, driving, live sports/music, North Hero Island on Lake Champlain, Phillips Academy, Fuess House (my dorm senior year at PA).
Favorite spots in cyberspace?
ESPN.com, cnnsi.com, facebook.com, and Bloomberg.com, www.pandora.com
