Jane Taylor

Internet Marketing Specialist
jtaylor@unionstmedia.com

Education:

B.A., Simon's Rock Early College. Concentrations: Literature & Music History

At USM:

My primary focus is the development of dynamic Internet marketing strategies. I edit visible content for search engine optimization and pleasurable reading. I distill the essence of a website's purpose and make it accessible to search engines, and more importantly, to people. I do research, I track performance, I follow trends, and I make the content of websites jive with the ebb and flow of current practices. The goal of my work with USM is three-fold: client happiness, surfer happiness, search engine happiness.

Best part of the job:

The Before and After. I love to see the improvement I make in the language and performance of a website I've worked on. It makes me dance around the room. I love that dance...

In her free time, Jane enjoys:

Pranayama, qajaqing (kayaking with a "Q" is traditional Greenland style - it involves lots and lots of rolling), travel, Bay of Exploits Newfoundland.

Favorite Musician

Kiflu Kidane is my favorite musician because he fled torture and persecution in Ethiopia to live in a strange, snowy land called Panton, Vermont where he did not speak the language and became something of a regional superstar leading a world music group called the New Nile Orchestra.

Once upon a time...

I was a Girl Scout. Mom was a Girl Scout leader. Our troop took a five-day backpacking trip in the cold rain in the deep woods in Northern Michigan. After three days, we were too cold and disgruntled to continue. Mom hiked out, got the Ford Econoline Van and drove us home. On the way home, we passed an angry man kicking his motorcycle at the side of the road. Mom hopped out of the van, grabbed her tools, fixed the guy's bike, hopped back in the van, and off we went. Moms rule! Besides being a Girl Scout leader, mom owned a motorcycle shop. Moms totally rule!

Now that I'm a mom...

My son Emmett is my favorite "roll" model. He is 13 and just won third place in a Greenland Style Qajaq Rolling competition (on Lake Champlain in April) – he was the only kid competing against 35 adults in very cold water.

Where does Jane go on the web?

Eye on the sky weather forecast from the Fairbanks Museum, Qajaq USA forum, Radio Sing Sing.
