Middkid
Middlebury College's "for students... by students" web site, Middkid.com is visited by hundreds of student body on a daily basis, and is supported by over 40 local businesses through out the Middlebury area. Middkid.com was started out of a dorm room in 1999 by Ted Adler '99.5 and James Okomboli Ong'ong'a '00.5, and led to the birth of what is today Union Street Media.
Objective:
As the official college web site addressed a broader community than just the students, Middkid.com was created to fill a need on the web for students to find pertinent, timely information that was not offered on the college web site. From profiles, coupons and a directory of local businesses, to student-written course evaluations, Middkid.com is the homepage for "Middkids" on campus.
Solution:
- Developed a site with unique content specific to the Middlebury College student experience. This includes a comprehensive course evaluation database, a directory of local Middlebury-student patronized businesses, a profiles and a coupon page with discounts to local businesses, various links often sought by the student body, daily weather, campus announcements, advice from alumni on the "real world" and contests for ski passes and gift certificates
- Launched the Middkid.com Card during 2004/2005, which includes all the coupons available on the site in a wallet sized card, and is passed out for free to students on campus.
- Designed to effuses Middlebury, the site can be easily updated by the Caitlin Littlefield '07.5, our Campus Manager.
